CONTEXT
Semble is an electronic health record platform serving thousands of clinics and more than nine million patients across the UK and France. I owned the product vision for the clinician experience and, as Clinical Safety Officer, the safety of the whole product: I put in place the company's Clinical Safety Framework and System from scratch, and carried that responsibility across every clinical workflow end to end.
THE WORK
Certification for a new market.
A central focus was earning the certifications that let an EHR operate nationally in France: HASv2 certification for prescription safety checks, the Shared Summary Care Record (VSM) and national e-Prescribing (Ordonnance Numérique). Both LAP HAS v2 and Ségur Wave 1 certifications were obtained less than a year after the process began, alongside a partnership and an integration with Posos. By keeping engineering and design closely aligned, we sustained high product velocity and quality through rigorous compliance work.
A safety framework from first principles.
I established Semble's inaugural clinical safety framework and owned DCB0129 compliance: hazard logs, Clinical Safety Case Reports, and safety checkpoints embedded into the product lifecycle rather than bolted on at the end.
AI in service of safety.
I built an AI agent on the Dust platform that assessed clinical-risk likelihood and severity against internal data and published literature, turning model outputs into actionable hazard prioritisation, an early, working example of AI applied to the clinical safety process itself.
Discovery to delivery.
I ran the end-to-end redesign of repeat prescribing and prescription templates, from clinician research to production, for one of the platform's highest-volume, most documentation-heavy workflows.

REFLECTION
Building a clinical safety system from scratch taught me that the framework matters less than where it sits. Safety cases change outcomes only when they live inside discovery, planning and release, owned by the people making product decisions. Then rigour and speed stop being a trade-off: two national certifications in under a year came from answering compliance questions while the product was still cheap to change. The safest team I have worked with was also the fastest.
